Christmas is my favourite time of the year and London celebrates it spectacularly well. Coming from New Zealand I’m used to having a summer Christmas – beach, BBQ’s & jandals. Now that I live in the Northern hemisphere I can sing along to christmas carols like ‘walking in a Winter Wonderland’ without feeling like a phoney. Here are my top 8 things to do in London this Christmas – mulled wine and christmas jumpers essential!
One thing about London is that it’s not short on palaces. London is the royal capital of Great Britain. Hampton Court Palace is one of the many palaces, it’s the oldest surviving Tudor Palace and it is absolutely breath taking.
Edinburgh was the place to go for New Year 2015/2016. The city has it all. Castles, palaces, extinct volcanoes, royal gardens and underground vaults. But we mainly went because Edinburgh is the home of Hogmanay, Scotland’s famous New Year Festival. Full of history and with the most magical surroundings, it’s easy to see how JK Rowling was inspired to write her Harry Potter books here.
Brighton is a vibrant sea side town, only an hours train ride from London. It’s the perfect destination for a day trip away from the big smoke. Brighton reminds me of home (Wellington, New Zealand) as the place is dripping with culture – cute cafes and antique shops line the streets .
