Third stop on our OE, Ubud.
Ubud is situated in the centre of Bali about an hour from the chaos of Kuta. Ubud is surrounded by scenic rice fields, small villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples, palaces, rivers, cheap accommodation and unique luxury hotels. You can find the most delicious healthy food here; great for vegans. gluten free and lactose free people. Julia Roberts filmed some of her movie Eat, Pray, Love here.
We were silly and only stayed two nights here so there was not enough time to see all the wonders of Ubud – I would recommend at least three. Our accommodation Green Field Hotel was amazing. It was very reasonable – about $40 NZD each for a night. The hotel had a beautiful view of the rice paddies and two pools and drivers that will take you to your destination anytime you like.
Recommendations:
- Bali Eco tour – 4 hours of down hill cycling with plenty of stops to try local coffee’s (including luwuk coffee – cat poo coffee) and tea, fruit, visit local villages, watch farmers at work and check out Mount Batur
- Ubud Palace
- Clear Cafe – they serve organic and natural food. Here I had a chocolate milkshake (made from cashew nut milk and coconut ice-cream) and Ikan Asli (fresh coconut crusted snapper with delicious sesame green beans over saffron rice with a pineapple coconut cream sauce).
Tips:
- Stay longer than two nights – we would have liked to do yoga and get some treatments
I think you did the same cycle tour as we did. Paradise!
Agreed. It was such a good day!!
Yes, plenty to do there for a week. Next time you visit you will be able to do all the things you missed. Loved the photos.
I am so envious of you…..you may have changed my mind about Bali and its surroundings. May have to revisit again sometime in the future!!
It is beautiful! I feel like you would enjoy your time here. You would be able to do your fave thing – relax!
Oh I so want to go to Ubid it looks so beautiful, the colours are amazing, great photos, history, local culture and the food looks amazing. I won’t be lining up for the poo coffee though ha ha ha
Plenty of walks for you to do! You could climb mount batur! Supposedly it’s amazing at sunrise 🙂
