Lots of my friends had given me mixed reviews on Athens so I wasn’t expecting too much from the capital. Our sailing trip around the Greek islands departed from Athens so we spent a few days there beforehand so we could make up our own minds. I’m so glad we went, Athens far surpassed my expectations.
Pastel coloured buildings, vintage trams, multi coloured tiles and stunning vistas are a few of the reasons why I adore Lisbon. What makes me love the place even more is the food! To break up our flight from New Zealand to London we stopped in Melbourne for a long weekend. I absolutely adore Melbourne. There is an abundance of culture, great eateries, amazing shopping and lovely green spaces. Normally before I go on holiday I do a lot of research to find out the best places to go but luckily for us we had friends and family take us to their favourite spots.
Stockholm was the destination of choice for one of my first long weekends away while living in LDN. Sweden’s gorgeous capital is situated on 14 islands connected by over 50 bridges. It’s a cosmopolitan place with both classical and modern architecture. Each neighbourhood is completely different and has their own distinct character.
Edinburgh was the place to go for New Year 2015/2016. The city has it all. Castles, palaces, extinct volcanoes, royal gardens and underground vaults. But we mainly went because Edinburgh is the home of Hogmanay, Scotland’s famous New Year Festival. Full of history and with the most magical surroundings, it’s easy to see how JK Rowling was inspired to write her Harry Potter books here.
Brighton is a vibrant sea side town, only an hours train ride from London. It’s the perfect destination for a day trip away from the big smoke. Brighton reminds me of home (Wellington, New Zealand) as the place is dripping with culture – cute cafes and antique shops line the streets .
The hardest thing about saving for my OE (which I depart for tomorrow) was to curb my addiction to EATING OUT! Wellington is crammed with more bars, cafes and restaurants per capita than New York. As a self proclaimed foodie it is no wonder that my weekend normally revolves around food – after work vino’s, brunch, coffee dates, dinners and sunday markets. This is my all time favourite slice. I’ve loved it since high school. Back then I would regularly purchase a piece from the tuck shop if I could rake together enough coinage. Who knows why it is called magic slice, but there is no denying that it is simply delicious. The only problem when you bake it is that you want to devour it all.

O ur annual Girls Christmas Dinner Party is the highlight of the social calendar. It started a few years ago, and each year it gets better. There has been Mexican, Magical, and Asian Christmases and this year was Under the Sea. It’s your typical christmas party.
