To break up our flight from New Zealand to London we stopped in Melbourne for a long weekend. I absolutely adore Melbourne. There is an abundance of culture, great eateries, amazing shopping and lovely green spaces. Normally before I go on holiday I do a lot of research to find out the best places to go but luckily for us we had friends and family take us to their favourite spots.

Places to eat at:

The Kettle Black – South Melbourne. The food here looks too good to eat – instagram worthy!

St Ali – South Melbourne. A great cafe hidden away off the main streets.

Jardin Tan – Royal Botanical Gardens, South Yarra. A vietnamese cafe/restaurant right in the heart of the botanical gardens where I could get my vietnamese iced coffee fix.

Hawker Hall – Chapel St. A very popular restaurant where the wait is normally around 2 hours. We got lucky and managed to get a table outside straight away. Great asian restaurant that takes it’s inspiration from hawker centres in Singapore. Perfect for sharing.

Walks:

There are so many beautiful spaces in Melbourne. Here are some walks I would recommend doing.

Central Melbourne Graffiti – there is so much cool graffiti in centre of town, you will pass by plenty of lanes with graffiti while out shopping.

1000 Steps – This walk is only a 40 min drive out of the city, but you will feel like you’re in the middle of the bush. As the name suggests, its all up hill!

Royal Botanical Gardens. We and half of Melbourne went for a walk on Sunday morning around the gardens. There is a beautiful memorial here to explore. When you have finished your walk pop into Jardin Tan for brunch.
