Last weekend Leigh and I went to Taupo to visit our friend Krystie and her baby, Tayla. When I first met Tayla she was 6 weeks old. Now she is 6 months old. I’ve heard that babies change drastically in a short time, so I was excited to see the wee one again.
Unfortunately Krystie had to work on Saturday, so Leigh and I decided we would embrace our inner tourist and do some sight seeing.
First up was the Huka Prawn Farm. We got the complete package which included a tour of the farm and access to the park where you can go fishing. Leigh was really pumped up to go fishing for prawns… even though she doesn’t eat seafood. Go figure.
All the prawns we caught… Jokes
Sadly, I didn’t catch any prawns. A kind couple gifted us some prawns when they were leaving and we happily said yes. The restaurant cooks up your catch for free, so that meant more prawns for me!
We then did the Craters of the moon walk. It’s a geothermal walk that takes around 45 minutes.
A tourist day in Taupo isn’t complete without a visit to the Huka falls….
If you are wanting to do touristy things in Taupo on the cheap I would recommend the activities we did. The prawn farm package is around $28, the geothermal walk was $8 and checking out the falls is free 🙂 We saved money during the day… so we could spend it all at night.
Once Krystie was free from work it was time for ladies night! We went out for dinner at Plateau.
We all got the Pork Belly.
I got the flourless chocolate cake for dessert.
And what you have all been waiting for… a few snaps of the adorable Tayla
We were just in Taupo last weekend! We should’ve tried the prawn farm, it looks interesting! 🙂
Hello! Oh you really should have. It was such a hoot 🙂
