One thing about London is that it’s not short on palaces. London is the royal capital of Great Britain. Hampton Court Palace is one of the many palaces, it’s the oldest surviving Tudor Palace and it is absolutely breath taking.
One of the most famous inhabitants of Hampton Court is Henry the VIII. He is famous for two reasons: 1) for having 6 wives (two of which he beheaded – Anne Boleyn and Kathryn Howard), 2) he broke with the Roman Catholic Church and created the Church of England.
Last weekend I went on a day trip to Hampton Court, it sits alongside the river Thames west of the capital. The journey to the palace is easy – it takes around an hours train ride from Waterloo to Kingston, and then a short bus ride from Kingston to the palace. Admission is 20 pounds and it gives you entry to the palace and the grounds.
We spent the day exploring inside Henry’s VIII’s apartments, kitchens, William III’s apartments, Cumberland Art Gallery and Mantegna’s Triumphs of Caesar. The rooms were stunning – they had the most beautiful ceilings, windows, furniture and art. However my favourite part of the day was exploring the gardens. The gardens are amazing, to keep them looking pristine they have 42 gardeners working there full time. Below are some photos from the day.
I would highly recommend a day trip to Hampton Court Palace. Going in Spring meant it was really cold while we were there, next time I want to go in Summer so I can enjoy the gardens more.

Aww, I live round the corner from Hampton Court Palace so it’s nice to see it from a visitor’s perspective! Next time you go, you should check out the maze if you haven’t already. Also, you can get the train straight from Waterloo to Hampton Court station and its just over the bridge from the station 🙂
